Atlanta City Council could make John Dewberry pay more for the lack of construction progress at his prominent Midtown office building. https://t.co/WoZbuJI7He
@MixedUseMarvels I do and your incorrect. But what is the point of this dialogue, that the Campanile Building should be allowed to rot as it sits at one of the most important intersections in our city?

@MixedUseMarvels Further, several requests for proposals have been put forth to redevelop a historic property. The circumstances around the old AJC building and the at the corner of 14th and Peachtree could not be more different.
@MixedUseMarvels I appreciate your brother’s support but he never heard me say the city owned the old AJC building for thirty years because we did not. We did acquire clean and secure it as we worked hard to have it developed. The attached photo is not a current rendering of the building.

Owners of large commercial properties should not be exempt from blight penalties!
If Council passes this, the city's tax bill on the skeletal Campanile tower, which has blighted Midtown for several years, would go from $91,000 to nearly $2.3 million.

Could a tax increase prod a famed Atlanta developer to finish his skeletal office tower that’s loomed lonesome for years over Midtown?
City Council considers a 25X blight tax increase — likely worth more than $2M annually — for Campanile.

It’s not recognized as much (considering how many legitimate urban basket cases there are nationwide), but Atlanta went from being a front runner to land Amazon HQ2 in 2017 to being passed over in favor of Miami, DFW and Nashville for virtually every big corporate relocation
The corner of Peachtree and 14th Street is arguably the geographic center of the Atlanta economy. Leaving this building half-deconstructed for years is unforgivable. At this point, I’d support the city refusing to renew the expired permits and forcing a sale to another developer.
