For all the Canadians admonishing mistreatment of incarcerated people in the US - you need to turn around and address the crisis at home as well. This article lists abhorrent abuse in an Ontario jail.
Even the most level-headed people in the US can’t seem to grasp that the rest of the world doesn’t see things as a Trump problem, they see things as a US problem, and don’t think the problems go away when Trump does
Yes, if you already subscribe to the channel you have to pay extra on top of that to watch Monday games. This after they already pulled free Saturday night games off our national broadcaster by pricing them out.
Rogers is killing hockey in Canada.
Ontario's new subway cars: Maryland. Our highway maintenance: Texas. Our teachers' supplies: American-owned Staples. Doug Ford has been playing Captain Canada for 18 months – but every one of these deals still stands. Recall the legislature so we can cancel the U.S. contracts.
if i told you i think trump is helping ford out by giving him political bulletin board material in exchange for ford selling the province off to american companies you’d kinda have to believe me right?
Someone just pointed out that—almost unbelievably—this is real footage from a fight in which the Canada goose ultimately prevailed over the eagle: https://t.co/wLQ6O7ccqf
If this isn't a metaphor for US trade policy, I don't know what is.
This is all well and good, but Jivani needs to be kicked out of caucus.
It’s not clear to me he isn’t a natsec risk.
A strong leader would take this as an opportunity: show Canadians he’s on their side and shares their views by booting the Quisling.
A test for Mr. Poilievre.
feeling a very protective sibling-like relationship to quebec bc like i can chirp quebec all i want as a canadian but americans wanna lay hands on my little french brother and i will throw hands
Well done, Prime. Minister. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Canada clearly made a serious, good faith effort to get greater stability and market access, and remains ready to find a fair, balanced agreement.
But we are not cravenly surrendering in the face of constant economic and political aggression.
Responding to the new US tariffs with counter tariffs is exactly the right thing to do at this time.
People in the Trump Administration keep expressing outrage that Canada is the only country in the world apart from China to retaliate against US tariffs.
Damn right we are. Makes me proud to be Canadian.
#ProudToBeCanadian #StrongAndFree
You seem to forget the part about "using economic force" to "annex or acquire Canada," @GinnyRothTO.
Or the part about the "imaginary line" (ie border) based on "a fake treaty."
Or the Oval Office maps showing Canada as part of the USA.
Or the constant ridicule and denigration of our country and its sovereignty, and endless talk about making Canada the 51st state.
The attacks on the honour of our Afghan War dead ("they stayed a little bit back, a little bit off the front lines.")
Or our reliability as an ally ("they've never been there for us") after incurring some of the highest per capita casualties in defence of the United States in Afghanistan.
Or the threats to invade a neighbouring NATO ally (ie Danish Greenland.)
Or the threats to remove Canada from the Five Eyes, and the suspension of the Permanent Joint Defence Board.
Or treating Canada like a greater security threat than North Korea, the Peoples Republic of China, or Putin's Russia.
And now the stated goal of "changing Canada's behaviour." What behaviour? That of a reliable friend, ally, and major trading partner that actually respects its trade agreements?
Yes, we have to approach all of this with a measure of prudence, restraint and patience. Yes, we should seek a modicum of certainty amidst the constant chaos and impulsiveness.
But Canada is not a mere economic zone whose entire national purpose is the minimization of tariffs.
We are not a punching bag.
There is nothing "grown up" about ignoring or normalizing the constant provocations and betrayals.
"lol GUYS," our entire history of sustaining a sovereign Canada next to a global super power has been an act of constant will, of which we should be immensely proud. Because thankfully, our forebears were animated by love of country, not by craven cynicism masquerading as hard headed realism.
You would have to be a weapons grade imbecile, knowing everything we know about Trump and Lutnick, to believe it was Canada who tanked this deal by refusing to sign off on previously agreed terms.
Trump wants the government to replace him as the defendant in the case so taxpayers have to foot the $83,000,000 judgement instead of his own pocket.
The world has never seen corruption like this.
I'm just going to keep dissecting what's wrong with these narratives and posts: 1. Way too long. 2. 'Tobi created everything' is EGO. Small business used and built Shopify. Give some credit and have humility. 3. His $ucce$$ doesn't mean he can mess with voting rights. Irrelevant.
Mr. Lutke should be rightly condemned for these authoritarian views on democracy, and his frequent pompous directives to governments should be discounted accordingly. But please don't glorify Shopify as one of Canada's 'largest' companies: it isn't remotely. /2
CEO of Shopify saying he thinks you should get multiple votes in an election if you're wealthy, and NO vote if you don't make at least $100k a year. This man is a threat to democracy.
