If the public good, rather than profits, drove public policy and the news cycle, this would be front page news and the top of every agenda.

Kamala Harris was always going to pick a white male running mate. How will Tim Walz get on knowing he's a 'diversity hire'? https://t.co/f2pyZIXU47 via @ABCaustralia
As long as our governments enable new oil & gas projects, they cannot claim to be acting in the public interest. Thankfully, our new govt is starting to grasp the urgency of a just transition away from fossil fuels.

Jane inspired fierce, yet systematic and thoughtful organising. Her legacy will live on in the struggles our affiliates are winning across the region, where we have been adapting her methods. Rest in Power Jane.
Rest in power Jane McAlevey, The Nation's strikes correspondent, a dear friend to the mag, and a woman who fought tenaciously until the end. We're putting together a thread of some of Jane's best reporting. But we'll start with her obit, published today:

Week 307. Earlier this week, 10 environmental activists from the group Mother Nature Cambodia were sentenced to six to eight years in prison after peacefully protesting for clean water.
This is yet another unacceptable example of the global trend where activists and land defenders are being criminalised and faced with ever increasing repression.
The right to peaceful protest cannot be compromised. Activists continue to resist state repression and continuing to speak up for all of our rights, freedom and safety. But they need all the support they can get. We all need to raise our voices to #DefendTheDefenders
I stand in solidarity with my friends in Mother Nature Cambodia and demand their immediate release, along with all political prisoners.

If one includes both direct & indirect deaths from Israel's assault, the death toll in Gaza goes up to 186,000 people, according to the medical journal @TheLancet. That's 1 in every 12 Gaza inhabitants killed in the last 9 months of genocide.
