WE VOTED YES! (THREAD)
We are thrilled to share that our members have voted to ratify our new three-year collective bargaining agreement with @NYtimes… (1/3)
This holiday season, the @NYTGuildTech donated $114,000 from their strike fund to support Pittsburgh-Gazette strikers and their families.
Solidarity is not just a slogan, it’s a core part of being in The NewsGuild family. ✊
✊🎉WE HAVE A DEAL 🎉✊
We are thrilled to announce we have reached a tentative three-year agreement with @NYtimes, pending ratification by our members. There’s so much to share but here are just a few highlights of the deal:
Over the last 8 days, we accomplished something extraordinary: we held the first tech-workers strike in the nation, ran one of the first and largest remote pickets in the nation, and pulled off a successful boycott of both NYT Cooking and Games.
NATIONAL RALLY: Today from coast to coast our members are rallying via Zoom. So much of our workforce works remotely and this rally serves as a way for all of us to come together and show solidarity.
'The bosses say don't work from home' - yet @nytimes CTO Jason Sobel works from California. Our @NYTGuildTech deserves better than hypocrisy - they deserve a fair contract with remote work protections. Their work - FROM HOME - has earned @nytimes millions of dollars
Today our @NYTGuildTech will be back on the picket line outside @nytimes. Because the @nytimes has chosen to prioritize its own greed and control over its workers, today also marks the first @newsguild strike to coincide with a presidential election in 60 years.
ELECTION DAY STRIKE: We are back out on the picket line today. We know this is a hard day to be on strike for our members but we want to be clear: We are here because of the decisions of @NYTimes management.
this comes as NYTco announces yet another monster profitable quarter this morning:
"Operating profit increased 20.7% year-over-year ...primarily as a result of higher digital subscription revenues..."
•"Operating profit margin for the quarter was 12%"
i stand with the strikers
1 million % support. And a big point too is that we in the media aren’t good at explaining to our readers how truly invaluable the tech side is. Readers don’t see it so they don’t know, but we need to tell them that the editorial side simply could not exist without these people
Solidarity with @NYTGuildTech workers now on strike!
These workers build and maintain the infrastructure behind @nytimes—everything from Wordle and the Cooking App, to critical Election Night coverage.
Management must come to the bargaining table swiftly and in good faith.
