There’s a lot of confusion about junior doctors at the moment. Who are they? How much are they paid? Why are they striking? I’m a junior doctor, and thought I’d do a thread on the topic, so that people can link to it when someone spouts misinformation
A 🧵
FY1s literally carry the crash bleep and could be first on scene if your heart stops. FY1s cover wards at night and are likely the only doctor you'll see there out of hours. FY1s are FORCED to make difficult decisions because senior/other staff are not available. For £14ph.
Thanks to this Government, junior doctors can now make more money serving coffee than saving patients.
From tomorrow we take #JuniorDoctorsStrike action so we’re paid what we’re worth.
In solidarity with my former junior doctor colleagues. A 98% yes vote tells you, and should tell the government, about the strength of feeling for pay restoration.
Question 1. If the NHS has 133,400 staff vacancies, with 40% of junior doctors planning to leave, and nursing salaries down 20% in real terms over the last decade, should you pay them a fair wage?
One thing I don't think anyone talks seriously enough about is the absolute culture shock of coming to university. Particularly, as a student from a more working-class background.
