declaring campus private property, revealing liberal facade of DEI, police repression, suspension & deportation all remind us that
university is a real estate project, cops protect property & power, deportations are linchpin of state violence & liberalism is a mirror to fascism.
This is your @rcmpgrcpolice Canada, racist, vulgar, violent & dangerous. Report written by former Supreme Court of Canada Justice Bastarache, RCMP are toxic, racist, misogynistic & sexually violent. RCMP C-IRG unit is the worst - cowboys with guns. @rcmpoffyintah@RcmpAbolish
With court decision yesterday in #yeg authorities can again tear down any camps anytime. If you see something happening email edmhousingcoaltion@gmail ASAP so witnesses can be invited #homelessness#HumanRights
This is absolutely terrifying. Our government and police service is entirely out of touch with reality and beyond uneducated. I have no words right now.
@timrichter@HomewardTrust Homeward Trust supports the encampment sweeps. In the recent case that the @coalition4jhr brought against the city for their approach to sweeps, HT submitted an affidavit supporting it which was referenced in the decision saying they didn't have standing.
Justice Martin granted the @CityofEdmonton's application to strike my client the @coalition4jhr's legal action against the City's encampment eviction policy on grounds that the Coalition lacks public interest standing to bring the action on behalf of people living in encampments.
All I can feel is rage. But, we shouldn't be surprised that this is the province's approach or understanding of housing precarity. The housing crisis is not new, but it is urgent. These sweeps are a colonial mechanism to displace people and result in deaths.
Removing cold weather shelters from encampment residents, esp if it's their only form of shelter, with nowhere else to go is a gross violation of human rights.
The Coalition for Justice and Human Rights sent a letter calling on the Minister of Housing to urgently intervene⬇️
“Get the bone saws ready.”
For those who survive this there will be a lot of amputations to perform. Frostbite, disability, immobility, invalidity and finally mortality. This journey through the hospital will consume far more resources than stable housing ever would.
