Voting on whether to have a vote is a ridiculous lack of provincial leadership.
Calgary is a globally connected city. Separation uncertainty is costing us jobs.
We have real work to do: building homes, improving public safety, fixing infrastructure, growing our economy, and making life better.
I am in a state of dissociative awe by how incredibly stupid, dangerous, and idiotic this all is. Just the inevitable result of a generation of unserious leadership and Conservative and Canadian dysfunction. https://t.co/neFs58aMsI
@Jeff_Schlemmer_ This project is actually Bridge Housing designed to support moving people in unsheltered homelessness with complex needs into permanent housing rapidly. It’s a pilot of a rapid housing response for unsheltered homelessness we hope to see scaled across the country
New essay from Tim Richter and me in the Globe
@MarkJCarney has set the right national goals and has an ambitious agenda to fix housing and homelessness.
But it won’t work if provinces aren’t forced to the table.
Time for Canada Housing Accord

Excellent piece by @tylermeredith in the Globe today, calling for what many have been saying for a long time:
We need the federal government to push the provinces (especially Ontario & BC) to fix their housing, land, municipal, and planning systems.
Ontario under Ford has spent nearly a decade shifting the blame to the Feds or local councils for what is largely a provincial responsibility.
We can’t keep poking at this; serious housing reform is needed. If there was serious effort at a national accord here, I would support it. But even without one, the Feds need to apply pressure to Ontario and BC specifically to change.
On Sunday @MarkJCarney@gregorrobertson launched an audacious vision for Build Canada Homes.
This is a historic time for housing policy in Canada.
Next week Carolyn Whitzman, me and Alan Broadbent will talk how to build affordable housing at scale @CANURB

Key findings of a recent US study on homeless encampments:
-Sweeps increase both mortality & spending
-Providing housing saves lives

#EndHomelessness
Preventing homelessness is more cost-effective than dealing with the issue after the fact. This requires knowing who is at imminent risk of losing their housing. That is what he Homelessness Income Cut Off (HICO) does. @policy_school@calgaryhomeless

Now we’ll have a federal housing Minister with proven leadership on homelessness paired with a hard charging PM @MarkJCarney determined to solve the housing crisis. Big things are possible.
This is very encouraging news! @gregorrobertson showed real passion & leadership on ending homelessness as Vancouver mayor but was left hanging by the province and Feds at the time

An excellent letter from the brilliant @homeless_law to @fordnation on Bill 6. Policies that criminalize homelessness fail to address encampments or community safety. Kudos @Diana_C_McNally for bringing this forward
Thank you to the National @homeless_law Center in D.C. for this letter to @fordnation re: Bill 6, which criminalizes encampment residents. The U.S. has seen how policies that criminalize homeless people fail to address encampments or community safety. Bill 6 must be rescinded.
Want to send a message to @fordnation and the Ontario government?
Help us tell them that Ontarians need housing — not punishment. That we want a government that protects us from Trump instead of acting like Trump.

The rising cost of living, unpredictable mortgage rates, unaffordable rents, rising home prices, and not enough homes, mean more and more Canadians are falling behind.
The Housing Canada Coalition stands ready to partner with the new government on solutions to #EndTheHousingGame – for good.

The solution to homelessness is housing.
This is why we're one of over 60 organizations who have joined the Encampment Justice Coalition.
Together, we're asking Ontario to rescind Bill 6, the Safer Municipalities Act: https://t.co/W8J7dL3g64
