To all those undergrads who are displeased with their faculty this term... Only calling them by their first names (and misspelling it) in the course eval is not a way to be taken seriously.
@AnnaMVagnozzi @gewiens I'm all for timely feedback but please understand the shear volume of that work. If I want to put any semblance of effort into providing useful feedback, that's a ton of hours that go unnoticed and unappreciated by almost all students.
@AnnaMVagnozzi @gewiens Not gonna lie though... I have either 30x (for a junior class) or 90x (for a freshman class) the work to grade one assignment for my classes. That's significantly more work than one student doing homework that will help them engage in the material.
@BoydEA_ OMG! There was a playground like this by my grandma's home in the upper peninsula of Michigan. It was a favorite place of mine as a kid. My brother's and I would spend hours there.
I’m working on a few things involving editorial board demographics, so general reminder that Prof. or Dr. are the best forms of address in research pub communication because:
1) PhDs worked HARD for the title
2) You can’t guess someone’s gender based on their name
3) It’s polite
For the last month, I've been told that classroom buildings would be unlocked during reg. hours. So I go to my class building today and it's locked and you can't be let in because @ClemsonUniv decided to monitor access via your ID; without telling ANYONE. That's very helpful.
@ClemsonPrez I truly do appreciate that you are sending out weekly updates for us, but as an Aug '20 grad can you make sure to distribute these grad updates to those of us who have already registered for graduation? Lots of alumni are being left out of the updates.
@stacijinsc It's just so frustrating. And what's the likelihood that they would do the same thing to their male professors? I know they don't the gauntlet of a PhD, but c'mon! I've literally NEVER introduced myself as Mrs. Ehlert, mostly because that's very much not my name.
I got "Mrs'd" today and it bothers me so much. (1) it's "Dr." and (2) I'm one of those crazy feminists who didn't take their husband's name. #callmedoc#orprofessor#imaPhD#keepingmylastname
@_alejannndraaa Have you tried a blue light filter on your computer before you invest in something? It's worth experimenting on the free thing to see if it works. It's easy to get used to the yellow/orange screen. You won't notice it after a day or two.
Thanks. I post this because it reminds me that years ago, people said things like “I love NPR but 90% of the stories are on gay marriage.” Finally someone counted, and about 1% were. Maybe the story you think is on 90% of the time is the one that makes you uncomfortable.
For my class via Zoom, I played SFW music as students came in. Not surprisingly, most of them enjoyed it so now I've created a playlist that they can add their own songs to for the morning music. An easy thing to do to connect with students. #teachinginapandemic#AcademicChatter
