Politico is expanding to Australia.
In the U.S., @pewresearch survey data show that about half of adults have heard of Politico and 8% say they regularly get news there, with differences by party.
For some people, it means seeking alternative perspectives.
For others, it means googling.
And for some, it means actively questioning what major news organizations or official sources say.
Same phrase. Very different practices.
“Do your own research” has become one of the strongest norms in how people think about news.
The problem is that people mean very different things by it — and we rarely stop to unpack those differences.
So much has changed with how Americans experience news. News is no longer a shared experience. People encounter the news incidentally, not by seeking it out. -@katmatsa@pewresearch#KMF2026
.@katmatsa: “For many younger audiences, the ‘news anchor’ is now a TikTok personality, a YouTube commentator, or a podcaster with a loyal following.”
