The Indian Science Technology and Engineering Facilities Map (@ISTEM_IISc), an initiative of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 3 January 2020 to make scientific research infrastructure more accessible and collaborative. Today, ISTEM serves as India’s national equipment repository, hosting over 30,000 scientific instruments and facilities and enabling researchers, innovators, startups, and institutions across the country to identify and access advanced research infrastructure.

With more than 1 lakh equipment bookings facilitated to date, ISTEM is helping maximise the utilisation of high-value scientific resources while fostering collaboration among academia, industry, and government research laboratories. By improving access to shared infrastructure, the platform is strengthening India’s research ecosystem and enabling researchers to focus on discovery, innovation, and impact.

The One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative, launched on 1 January 2025, is expanding access to global scholarly knowledge across India's higher education and research ecosystem.

Through ONOS:

➡️ More than 6,000 higher education and research institutes now have access to over 13,000 journal titles from major international publishers and research platforms.

➡️ Researchers can benefit from dedicated Open Access publishing support through allocated funding mechanisms.

➡️ Scholarly content can be accessed remotely through the Indian Access Management Federation (INFED), making research resources available beyond campus boundaries.

➡️ The platform supports interdisciplinary inquiry by bringing together resources spanning science, technology, medicine, social sciences, humanities, and management.

➡️ Researchers at institutions in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, as well as those in remote regions, can access the same high-quality academic literature available at leading national institutions.

By widening access to knowledge and reducing barriers to scholarly resources, ONOS is helping create a more inclusive, connected, and research-driven academic landscape across India.
