After 3 years of searching, I finally found the extremely rare #Asilidae Dioctria (Nannodioctria) seminole, known from just 3 specimens collected over 100 years. Previously recorded only from Florida, a new population was recently discovered in Alabama by Steve Krotzer.
Birds, insect, isotopes, dietary quality: "At the time those collections were assembled, the technology that is being used now didn't exist," McAlpine said (@nbmmnb). "People couldn't have imagined how these specimens would be used." #MuseumCollection
