Proud advisor moments at #UAI2022 today!
My students Anthony Sicilia @asicil96 and Kate Atwell @katwellll recieved the best paper award. In this work, that's in collaboration with Seong Jae Hwang, we propose the first PAC-Bayesian adaptation bounds for multiclass learners.
If anyone in your network would be interested in sharing their perspectives, we would greatly appreciate it if you could share this survey! We are hoping to represent as many voices as possible

Looking forward to presenting our work, Studying and Mitigating Biases in Sign Language Understanding Models, @ EMNLP this Thursday at Poster Session F 📈 https://t.co/VqD1jB7Oxq 🧵
This work was done in collaboration with my co-authors, @malihealikhani and @DanielleKBragg, and we conduct an in-depth analysis of bias in sign language understanding models, with a specific focus on models trained on the ASL Citizen dataset
When Malihe Alikhani joined Khoury College last year, she brought a talented team of AI researchers with her. Now, powered by its mission to design equitable language tech, that team has made its mark at an Amazon competition.

We've made it to the Alexa Taskbot International Competition finals! Our team has pioneered tailored Alexa experiences for overlooked communities by innovating workflows around generative models and combining the cognitive science of language use with domain adaptation tools.
We're thrilled to share our progress in our passionate endeavor to democratize information access and make conversational AI more inclusive. We have made it to the semifinals of the Amazon international taskbot competition. Proud of this enthusiastic and strong team of students!
I’m excited to share that our team ISABEL at @SciPitt has been selected for the #AlexaPrize TaskBot Challenge 2! Learn more about the challenge on the @AmazonScience website: https://t.co/FzMkIXUPeN

“In Finland, the # of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.” https://t.co/EH3reri9lz

Meaning preservation under style transfer is often a challenge, and offensiveness transfer is no exception. In our #COLING2022 paper, we find that using discourse features improves content preservation by a substantial margin without increasing offensiveness
