@goldsbie re this week’s Wag the Doug: I worked several times as a paid door knocker for the SK NDP as a high school/college student (early 2000s). We were classified as paid volunteers so the hours low and pay wasn’t great but it was an okay summer job for a couple weeks 💁🏼‍♀️

Joke’s on whoever stole my bike while I was away: it’s a rusted mess that needs new pedals/seat/tires/lights (that I have been procrastinating on getting fixed for a year plus). Enjoy! I have an extra bike that’s actually in much better shape overall just needs a new front wheel

The Netherlands has committed itself to going (natural) gas free by 2050 but the infrastructure isn’t in place yet to be switching on a massive scale. If one good thing comes out of this energy crisis I hope it will stimulate speeding up the infrastructure.

I moved at the right time for this energy crisis. Instead of living in a drafty house I’m in a small apartment. I only heat the living room and bathroom (cause otherwise mold). Also I was considering buying a car last year but now I’m happy with my €110/month train card

But it’s still hard out there for people with low incomes. Even only heating one room of my house + hot water = €70/month on gas costs and that’s with a fixed rate contract I luckily signed 4 years ago. People paying the variable market rate are getting huge bills.

Someone posted a photo of this 80-year-old who showed up to join the army, carrying with him a small case with 2 t-shirts, a pair of extra pants, a toothbrush and a few sandwiches for lunch. He said he was doing it for his grandkids.
