I shed many tears while typing up these heart-wrenching text messages sent and received by UNC students yesterday. Our campus was on lockdown for more than three hours.

But in the spirit of looking for helpers, I’m grateful to the students who shared chargers, colleagues who teamed up to secure doors, the campus Y employee who advised on exit routes and secure closets.

What NOT to do in election reporting.
Providing accurate information is one aspect of good reporting. But especially around elections, good journalism MUST provide context and connect experts and explainers to their audiences.
The alternative is to become conspiracy fodder.
