The #GoldFire was detected the afternoon of June 27 near Gold Gultch. Local resources responded to the smoke report to an initial size of approximately 3 acres. With Red Flag conditions present, the fire grew to 75 acres by 5 pm. The Arizona Task Force staged in North Phoenix responded alongside the local fire department, a type 2 hand crew and miscellaneous overhead.

On June 28 at 1pm, forward progress was stopped at 145 acres. A helicopter recon mission was completed the evening of June 28 to asses the fire in areas not reachable by foot and complete a mapping mission. As of June 29 @ 3:30pm, the fire is 30% contained and holding at 145 acres.

The fire is burning in rugged terrain through grass and brush. Firefighters have implemented full suppression tactics where they can safely access the fire's edge. Crews will mop up remaining heat near the fire's edge to keep the fire within it's footprint.
