这是1949年5月上海解放前夕，黄浦江码头记录下的时代影像，见证旧上海行将落幕的众生百态。
江岸边，大批国民党军队人员抢登征用民用客轮，准备撤往舟山，再转赴台湾。与此同时，在沪欧美侨民借助美国舰船安排撤离，部分私人车辆随船运走，两种撤离场景在码头形成强烈对比。
1949年4月南京解放之后，解放军渡过长江，兵锋直指上海。国民党当局开始实施人员、物资南迁；美国使馆也启动在沪外侨撤离计划。虹口码头、外白渡桥、龙华机场全部陷入拥挤混乱。
国民党部队征用民间船只，大量士兵拥挤在甲板与船舱，仓促登船撤退。
欧美外侨借助美方组织的运输船只离开上海，部分私家汽车被搬运上船，外籍人士有序登船，大多去往香港等地。
普通上海市民夹在变局之中。少数家境尚可者，涌向机场、码头争抢船票、机票，但票价高昂。绝大多数普通百姓没有财力出逃，只能留在本地，观望局势变化。
1949年5月27日，上海正式解放。上海的租界体系早在1943年就已通过条约废除，解放后，残余的外国特权被彻底清除，国民党在华东地区的统治宣告终结。

The plaza is packed, and you can hear what sounds like music or some kind of stage rehearsal in the background.

Said to have been filmed around 1:30 p.m., less than 24 hours before 9/11.

Life felt simpler. People felt a little friendlier. America felt different.

Here is footage from the old world, walking along Liberty and Church Streets, entering the South Tower lobby, and eventually heading all the way up to the observation deck.

Just one ordinary day before everything changed.
