The National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA) has commenced two specialised training programmes for officers drawn from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), in a move aimed at strengthening their investigative, intelligence and enforcement capabilities.
The Cyber Crime, Digital Forensics and Ethical Hacking Course is running concurrently with the Intelligence Analysis, Surveillance and Asset Tracing Course, equipping participants with specialised skills to confront increasingly complex and technology-driven threats.
The cyber-focused programme covers cyber threats, digital forensics, ethical hacking, cybercrime investigations and digital evidence management, while the intelligence course focuses on intelligence analysis, surveillance, asset tracing, investigative interviewing and report writing.
Together, the programmes combine classroom instruction with practical exercises, giving officers hands-on skills applicable to cybercrime investigations, intelligence-led enforcement, threat identification and asset recovery.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on behalf of the Director DCI, NCIA Commandant Mr. Ibrahim Jillo said the training would enhance officersβ ability to harness intelligence and technology in identifying threats, supporting investigations and strengthening enforcement.
βCrime is evolving, and so must our response. These courses give officers the practical skills to analyse intelligence and harness digital evidence in pursuit of timely enforcement.β
Representing KRA, Ms. Prisca Mutindi said the specialised training would enhance the Authorityβs capacity to identify emerging risks, pursue complex investigative leads and strengthen evidence-based enforcement.
βThese skills are critical to staying ahead of emerging threats and protecting revenue through evidence-based enforcement.β
The NCIA continues to partner with government agencies in building specialised investigative capacity, strengthening inter-agency collaboration and advancing intelligence-led approaches in support of national security and law enforcement objectives.

In efforts to combat narcotics trafficking, law enforcement officers have conducted a series of intelligence-led operations across the country, resulting in the arrest of multiple suspects and the seizure of substantial amounts of cannabis sativa.
In Kaimosi, Nandi Central Sub-County, officers from Kaimosi police station intercepted an SUV loaded with cannabis valued at approximately Sh13.4 million. Acting on a tip-off, police set up an ambush for a sky-blue Mazda CX-5 believed to be transporting the illicit cargo along Chavakali-Kapsabet Road. Their efforts paid off as they intercepted the vehicle, uncovering seven sacks of cannabis tipping the scales at 271.3 kilogrammes. Unfortunately, the driver and his accomplice managed to evade capture, abandoning the vehicle at the scene.
In another operation at Ngariga Junction along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway in Kiambu County, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) intercepted a public service vehicle. In this raid, a 32-year-old passenger, Francis Oteba, was arrested after he was found in possession of five bales of bang cleverly concealed in his black bag.
Meanwhile, in Kisii County, ANU detectives struck again, apprehending Nancy Moraa, Phylis Matundura Mogaka, and Andrew Makokha Cheng'oli. The trio was caught red-handed with 10 kilogrammes of bhang, alongside Sh63,335, suspected to be proceeds from their illicit activities.
These coordinated operations underscore the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to dismantle narcotics trafficking networks, disrupt the illicit drug trade, and protect communities from the devastating effects of drug abuse.
