To the ordinary Protestant community our protest was not against you it was against the orange order who allowed themselves to be used by Carla Lockhart and Jamie Bryson for their own political gain thankfully they have failed and the Garvaghy can get back normal life 🙏👍👏👏👏
A lot of you from outside Ireland are probably hearing about the Garvaghy Road and wondering what all the fuss is about.
1998 -
After the parade was banned from marching on the Garvaghy Rd, ten Catholic churches were set on fire across Ulster in one night.
In the following days, loyalists attacked Catholic homes, schools and businesses. Multiple houses were petrol-bombed, resulting in the murder of 3 young boys, the Quinn brothers. Their home was targeted because their mother was Catholic.
She mother woke to the sound of her children screaming in fear and the house full of smoke. Sadly the boys, Jason, Mark and Richard, did not make it out.
Garfield Gilmour was sentenced to life in prison after he admitted to driving three members of a UVF unit to the house, but later that was reduced to manslaughter.
Johnny McKay and brothers Raymond and Ivan Parke were named by Gilmour as the killers, but were never charged because of a lack of evidence.
In the days following the murders, loyalist bands defied orders not to play music while marching passed the home of the Quinn boys grandmother.
Tonight, a court overturned an earlier ruling banning the parade from marching on the Garvaghy Road, crowds have gathered and confrontation now seems inevitable with that march set to go ahead early Sunday morning.
The courts allowing this march to go ahead is absolute madness!
The people who are not supporting the protesters are the ones that never had to struggle in their lives.
Even if you never had to struggle please show some empathy for the growing number of parents struggling to feed and clothe their children in Ireland 2026
Solidarity!
I remember Christmas 1973, we had no Christmas lights in town because of the ESB strike.
Our electricity was cut off for a few hours every night.
But we still supported the strikers.
I grew up in times when we stuck together.
Solidarity with protesters!
Israel has now seized a larger % of Lebanon than Russia took from Ukraine since its invasion.
One was met with RTÉ studio colours, flags on government buildings & across our cities & bridges lit up.
With mass EU sanctions & global sports exclusions.
Other...silence for Israel
When was that because i think all those priests molesting children and the septic pits full of dead babies in the mother and baby homes speak against this
The Irish are known for their unapologetic support for Palestinians, but what connects the two peoples?
@dena speaks to Irish people about why they feel a sense of shared struggle with Palestinians.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but Heather Humphreys didn't lose the presidential election because she was a protestant. It wasn't sectarianism. She lost for running a smear campaign against the other candidate, for being the government's candidate, and for her policies.
This woman is Ireland's new President.
Catherine Connelly has been demonstrating in support of Palestine for the past two years.
You don't have to be a Muslim to support Palestine; you only need to be a human.
Long live Ireland 🇮🇪
I have instructed my legal team that it is my intention to pursue legal action against Keir Starmer’s decision to retrospectively change a law which a Conservative govt broke over 50 years ago. https://t.co/XedRFkagwD
Irish children sing "Men Behind the Wire", protesting British internment.
Israel's policies of mass imprisonment & detention of Palestinians are learned, not invented.
Resistance, too, is as old as these violent colonial policies.
