1. M23 are Congolese fighting for their right to exist and freedom from extermination on their homelands, Congolese territory.

2. Rwanda has never left the negotiating table. It is the DRC who refuses to show up to regional summits or negotiate a political solution with M23, preferring instead to use Rwanda as a scapegoat and undermine regional peace processes.

3. The EU has a historic responsibility to prevent the ethnic cleansing of Kinyarwanda speaking Congolese and should use its voice and resources to condemn hate speech and the attempts to exterminate Congolese Tutsi in North and South Kivu by the DRC Gov and its proxies, including the FDLR.

4. The EU should condemn the use of European mercenaries operating on Congolese soil.

5. The path to peace is political dialogue, not violence. Achieving this should be a priority for all.

Unlike what the international community will have you believe, the idea that a political solution is necessary to solve the conflict in Eastern DRC is far from new. It is what Rwanda has been calling for, for YEARS. It is exactly what President Tshisekedi has openly and REPEATEDLY refused to do. And we will not join you in pretending otherwise.

The underlying message of the selective outcry is not that there is a sudden genuine concern for the plight of a country that everyone knows is a failed state. The message is clear: the decision made 30 years ago—that the lives of Rwandans are expendable in the face of geopolitical interests—still stands today.

That is why the leadership of DRC is enjoying the perks of sharing the same interests as their masters: talk crazy, recruit genocidaires and European mercenaries to fight your wars, sit back, relax, and let the international community bury the real issue.

What every resolution and statement is calling for is an immediate return to business as usual: a nation that must remain a lawless playground where leaders get their cut to go buy castles in Brussels, the international community thrives off the business of peacekeeping and poverty alleviation programs, and their companies protect their profits.

Every country throwing its weight behind DRC knows they would never tolerate a fraction of the kind of security threats Rwanda has been facing for 30 years.

The gaslighting is deliberate because the truth is bad for business. It turns out that in this equation, the citizens of either country don’t actually matter, and in the end, their goal is NOT in fact a path to peace.

Rwanda’s real crime is taking our destiny into our own hands. How dare we protect our security without asking for permission? How dare we think that a dignified, peaceful country is something we deserve?

What is encouraged is the kind of leadership that abdicates any responsibility for its own people, calls on everyone else but themselves to solve their problems and shamelessly sells its dignity to the highest bidder.

An army unpaid, hundreds of mercenaries (rebranded as paramilitaries), genocidaires and soldiers from 4 different countries killing DRC citizens, a President that openly calls for the overthrow of Rwanda’s government, ministers calling for ethnic cleansing, looting of national resources at an unprecedented scale…and somehow not ONE call for DRC’s accountability.

Rwanda is blamed for DRC’s failure of governance, evident on the ENTIRETY of the territory of the 2nd largest country on the continent, not because it is true, but because our quest for self determination is unacceptable.
