“We’ve seen a lot of these TriNetX studies, and they all seem to have very similar flaws” says Samy Suissa, a pharmacoepidemiologist at McGill University. “[…] always find these spectacular effects, remarkable benefits for drugs on all kinds of outcomes.” https://t.co/gQ01tFo91F
Retatrutide in adults with obesity over 104 weeks in the highest dose group had 30.3% weight loss.

Insightful commentary in @Nature about rapid weight loss with GLP-1 meds which can lead to significant muscle loss or even #sarcopenia. Muscle-preserving strategies, exercise, adequate protein (~1.2-1.6 g/kg/d), creatine, and promising new agents like #bimagrumab and myostatin inhibitors.

We are halfway up the mountain of clinical trial data to be produced for #tirzepatide.

The notion that #lifestyle should precede medical management of #obesity is not just public opinion.
Unfortunately it is written into the @ObesitySociety guidelines…which are 10 years old and desperately need an update
The truth is that all obesity pharmacotherapy trials are done on the backbone of lifestyle *counseling* (adherence not measured or reported) so many MDs still abide by the “lifestyle first” rule
👉But this is an area of needed #research
👉We need data on “real world” use where counseling may be minimal or nonexistent
Having worked with thousands of patients, I can say some people who are “just” taking the medication without any lifestyle changes are still healthier than before and #HellthInsurance requiring them to prove lifestyle trial before continuing coverage is unethical and harmful
