Musicmaker—rock band, opera, symphony, oratorio—singer, improviser, prof, mom—What is it Like to Be a Bat? (Tzadik), ecclesiastes: a modern oratorio (Innova)
Thanks to Composers Concordance & Gene Pritzker & Dan Cooper, I get to play the flute with 7 other flutists AND hear two new premieres of mine along with 8 other composers. How cool is that!!!!!!!!
@Komaniecki_R But there’s something to heed. Theory, follows and documents practice, e. g. Anon IV. If music theory starts to predict, the result is deadly. Because music is ever changing, so must its theory. Students need to see that we as teachers understand that, in order to trust us.
For those of you who dwell in or around Boston, I wanted to make sure you knew about this premiere—two songs of mine—setting poems by Marjorie Morningstar and Charles Coe. I’m hoping to hear the Thursday and Saturday shows. Maybe see you there?
@piesaac Most controlling composer I’ve ever performed. Restricting my affect and experience felt more constructing in its invasiveness than total serialism. But kin.
Concert is this Sunday 9/18 @ 3pm, St John’s in the Village NYC. This piece is up first so come on time if you want to hear it! Tickets: https://t.co/7aa4bnJvqD
Harlem Renaissance poet Angelina Weld Grimke was gay, but born into a mixed race pre-Emancipation dynasty, she put loyalty to her family before her own sexuality. “El Beso”, sung Sunday afternoon by two sopranos, depicts Grimke’s poignant unrequited love.
On Saturday I joined @DaveSewelson on @WFMU 's web-only @GTDRadio for his show Music for a Free World. It was a magical afternoon. You can listen to the full stream here, whenever, for as much or as little as you want: https://t.co/BbgXiT9M6w
