Jakande built ~22,000 classrooms in 4 years. 11,729 of them in five months.

They will tell you the British Empire brought railroads.

This is true.

They will not tell you what the railroads were for.

They were not for Indians.

They were for moving goods from the interior to the ports.

For extracting cotton, indigo, jute, tea, and grain to British markets.

For moving British troops rapidly to suppress resistance.

The railroads of the British Empire were built by Indian labor, funded by Indian taxes, and designed to accelerate the extraction of Indian wealth to Britain.

Indians paid fares that consumed a heavy share of ordinary incomes to ride on railroads whose costs were borne by Indian revenues.

The railroad argument is the clearest example of the imperial accounting trick: taking the infrastructure of extraction and presenting it as the gift of civilization.

These are some of the top Islamic countries.

In short, they have higher basic literacy rates than the United States.

Why does such a significant educational gap exist in Northern Nigeria? And what is the basis for some of the extremist views about Western education in this part of the world?
