FBI Director Kash Patel has declared war on cartels and gangs exploiting tribal lands.

“To the gangs, cartels, and violent thugs who think Tribal lands are somewhere you can operate unchecked: Those days are OVER,” he wrote in a post on social media. “We’re coming after you. We’re dismantling your networks. And we’re going to keep showing up for these communities until the job is done.”

Between May and July, Operation Trusted Trails produced 86 arrests, 62 drug seizures including meth and cocaine, and the recovery of 146 weapons as federal, state, local, and tribal partners targeted violent networks and traffickers that Patel said are poisoning Native American communities.

The effort comes amid growing FBI warnings that Mexican cartels are embedding in remote reservations to traffic narcotics and exploit limited law enforcement resources along the U.S.–Mexico border.
