Violence has no place in our politics. Period end of story. Hope the former president is okay. Hope his family is as well. This is a moment for everyone to pause, to stop. Violence in our speech, our tone, our thoughts, our words. May we all reject it all.
Dear news media and the pundit class:
Restraint is crucial. Report the facts—and, as much as possible, avoid assumptions and generalizations.
America must be bigger than its partisan politics. And I hope Donald Trump is okay.
Our CEO @kcambell moderated a @CEPData panel w/ @dsallentess @CHayling @SarahRuger and Stephen Heintz (@RockBrosFund) on "Democracy Renovation, Revival, and Reinvention."
They discussed the imperative of building a “supermajority for democracy."

You can’t solve polarization alone, but you do have a unique role to play. @kcambell, CEO of @PACEfunders, explains how you to find your place in an ecosystem of social cohesion building in the first guest post of our Dialogue Across Difference series.

Opinion: Want to fund a healthy democracy? Stop focusing on partisan politics. Grant makers are eager to protect and strengthen democracy, writes @kcambell, but only if they believe their investments will bolster their own ideological perspective. https://t.co/AGXGDNkXgW
Fascinating conversations about creative tensions in democracy with @KetteringFdn last week. Honored to be there to riff about the (not intuitive) tensions between how we achieve inclusion + pluralism based on some of what we're observing @PACEfunders

"Volunteerism is both a well of civic energy + a tried-and-true approach to bridging divides ... a new report raises hope that we can flex these civic muscles + put them to use to address our nation’s greatest domestic challenge: polarization." @EbooPatel

Glad to be repping @PACEfunders at the @ReaganEducation RISE Summit today. Important conversations about the state + future of education across the US, including civic education. Always provocative, thoughtful, inspiring. Tune in here: https://t.co/wLHxPvGOva
A big question our chat left me with: if no one feels they or "their groups" belong, are respected, or have power, what does that tell about the state of society and democracy, and how to create connection to it and within it?
NEW PODCAST: @kcambell welcomes Rachel Brown from Over Zero to talk NEW insights on #belonging, #democracy, and more!
-What is belonging, anyway?
-Who feels like they belong + who doesn't?
-Is belonging the difference b/w democracy and authoritarianism?

#CivicLanguage "results reveal that religious groups have widely divergent understandings of what key terms mean in the American political lexicon and value different types of political engagement." @ryanburge

Thank you @ryanburge for this piece drawing from our Civic Language Perception Project!
"Atheists value civic engagement as a core component of a functioning democracy at a level religious groups do not, placing a premium on voting, protest and activism"

"A broken heart is a physical diagnosis and a social diagnosis ... we need a culture of connection, a civic culture in which we actually see one another's fates as entwined." @ericpliu on the connection between loneliness, human connection, and civic life

Great to be celebrating philanthropy, democracy, and community in Charlottesville yesterday with @CNEcville, @RLDortchJr and many other leaders. My message: philanthropy + democracy means ensuring human connection is at the heart of how society operates.

Met a guy at #kmf23 who grew up in the house behind my grandparents in Oklahoma. They literally shared a fence. He remembers them from when he was a kid. 🥹 My mom now lives in that house + his parents still live there.
This is #HallwayTrack magic of in-person meetings. ❤️
