@EddieComeaux@UCLALawReview@DrUJayakumar Honestly, with the ruling against affirmative action, it only makes sense for the view of "race-neutral" admissions to be advantageous for white applicants as a workaround without making institutions that use this mentality as not biased and instead trying to sound diverse.
Sharing a @UCLALawReview article co-auth with @DrUJayakumar Bill Kidder & Sherod Thaxton on race, athletics, and admissions. We show that supposedly race-neutral admissions policies create advantages for white applicants.... let us know your thoughts.

@Tfull0144@TA_ED50 You make a great point! I feel when athletes especially at UCR get classes in priority I think things like learning communities that allow them to get some form of class about these kinds of things would be incredibly beneficial. #UCR50@abhornUCRedu#ucr50horn
Affirmative action was supposed to allow for more diversity and allow for understanding that not everyone is going to come from the same background, race-neutral practices only make it harder when they aren't under clear rule sets. #UCR50#UCR50horn@abhornUCRedu
@annette_are@TA_ED50 You make an amazing point! Especially when athletes are held to standards near par to that of professional athletes to maintain their image on social media and other media outlets their lack of compensation has to breach some form of labor laws! #UCR50#ucr50horn@abhornUCRedu
Should college athletes be held to the same standards as professional athletes? Contract-wise they're very different, but when it comes to social media standards, they seem to be nearly on par. I feel as though it's hard to force social media moderation on them. #UCR50#ucr50horn
@Mariaplasmerc@vrodr096@KatryaLy@abhornUCRedu You both make excellent points! Title IX has brought us one step closer to reaching that gender equity, but when it comes to things like private colleges, enforcing Title IX will be complex without making it a national law or bill. However, it will be met with resistance. #ucr50
Hattery, Smith, and Staurowsky (2007) found the presence of gender inequities after Title IX was passed. After so many years is gender equity still not achieved? What would be a way to reach this that we have yet to try in the past nearly 50 years. #UCR50#ucr50horn@abhornUCRedu
@littlebunnyw@KatryaLy I think you pose a really great question! And honestly I don’t think I’d really know how to answer it but it does pose a good conversation and also insight into if things like affirmative action or diversity inclusion programs do have an effect on diversity #ucr50#ucr50horn
Singer (2015, p. 199) discusses the systemic racism that occurs in athletics, do you think that in order to end systemic racism in an intercollegiate environment it should begin with athletics or on an academic area in campus management? #ucr50#ucr50horn@abhornUCRedu
@jayyrojas24@TA_ED50 You make a good point about the rise of risk of using substances; the NCAA (2018) study shows 23,000 student-athletes have used them. Although this is a lower total than non-athletes it's still a concerning amount when considering the larger load athletes have to deal with.#ucr50
If the conditions of the IAC are so fluid does this not cause the increased potential for bias or other issues to slip through the cracks if there's near-constant change by the university on programs and funding? #ucr50abhorn#ucr50@abhornUCRedu
