The @Trade_For_Peace team had the honour of participating in a discussion led by @AmericanU’s Conflict Mitigation & Peacebuilding Practicum students on the historical use of trade by WTO Members as a tool for stability in FCS, while reflecting on shifting dynamics in the MTS.

In Maputo, Mozambique at the African Trade Ministers Meeting to prepare for the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference in Yaounde. With opening statements by the Prime Minister of Mozambique H.E Maria Benvinda Levy and by myself, the Honourable Minister of the Economy H.E Basílio Zefanias Muhate @basiliomuhate, African Union Commissioner for Trade H.E Francisca Tatchouop Belobe @AU_ETTIM, and the Secretary General of the @AfCFTA H.E Wamkele Mene.
My statement focused on the realities of international trade today, the impact of tariffs and uncertainty on Africa, the need for Africans to focus on strengthening their economies and boosting intra-Africa and external trade through attraction of value chains and diversification of their trade including with the global south. Focused strongly as well on the need for reforming the WTO to better serve global and African interests
