Tackling starts before contact.
This posture drill teaches defenders to close space without standing up and giving away their leverage.
~ Stay loaded through the approach
~ Keep the feet underneath the hips
~ Maintain body position into contact
~ Wrap, squeeze, and finish through the target
The resistance exposes the mistake immediately. Rise too early and you lose your power. Reach for the tackle and you lose your base.
Good posture keeps the defender connected to the ground and ready to finish.
Any thoughts on forcing kids to roll the way that the ball carriers going to force them to be able to get up on both sides of their body. I've noticed a lot of youth players will only get up on one side of their body and only tackle players with one side of their body? Their brains r grooved in one particular way
Wrap & Roll Drill
- The wrap and roll drill is performed on the knees to eliminate injuries.
- Coaches should use bags instead of people for this drill to keep players safe.
- Using verbal triggers like "execute," "violent," or "snap" provides effective cues for players to finish the drill.
- Integrating a visual cue, such as rolling a tennis ball or placing a ball on a stick, helps train movement during tackle circuits and prevents players from jumping offsides.
- Coaches should focus on positive enforcement, like telling players to "stay disciplined" and "watch the ball," rather than using negative statements.
- Drill directions and visual cues should be changed up regularly so players practice snapping with violence to both the left and right sides.

FACT: Sleep more = less injuries
Prospective study of adolescent athletes (average age ~15)
Those averaging less than 8 hours of sleep per night were 1.7 times more likely to sustain a sports injury than those sleeping more than 8 hours.

What is Leverage?
**Leverage is simply controlling where the ball carrier can go.**
You eyes initiate.
Your feet establish it.
Your hips protect it.
Your hands maintain it.
~Lose leverage and you’re chasing.
~Keep leverage and you’re dictating.
