Sorry that this has to be said (and vaguely, since it involves a colleague) but the claim that 1st century Jews didn't care for the vulnerable exists primarily in (Christian) academic circles where unfamiliarity with the actual texts that Jews wrote at this time is tolerated 1/3

@ErinNewtonTX I think death was part of human existence pre-"Fall" and that the way humans kept on living was because they had access to the Tree of Life. The reason they are said to be cut off from accessing the tree is so that they would not keep eating from and thus live forever.
