The US has a history of energy own goals.

You would think we would have learned from the results of tanking nuclear, but I guess banning data centers will be another fun case study.

The good thing about data centers is that it's a state moratorium, not a national one.

Some states will have rapidly improving grids, others will continue deteriorate.

In the ones that deteriorate there will be complaints about rising costs and poor service and instead of fixing the problem they will campaign to "freeze electricity prices" which will exacerbate the problem.

“I'm all about discerning immigration, not on the lines of some cultural definition, but really around that simple framing of are you going to get social support services or are you going to work?

Going back to my makers vs takers point, if the primary motivation for an individual to come to this country is to be given benefits, to be given payments, to be given social services, to be given support, I think that that person should be denied immigration.

If the primary motivation for the individual to come to the United States is to work to progress themselves, to become a maker, to create things, to work in such a way that they can generate income, save capital, buy things, advance their family's position because they are denied those rights due to the tyranny of the place that they're coming from, then they should be granted immigration status to come to this country and contribute.

Because at the end of the day, what people may not like to hear, which is the truth, is that every single one of those people is actually net positive in growing our economy.

And everyone thinks it's a zero-sum game with respect to jobs in the United States, and we shouldn't let people into this country that create jobs. But the fundamental truth is that anyone that is productive, meaning they create more value than they take in, grows the economy and more jobs get created, and overall, we all benefit from having those individuals here in this country.

And by the way, if you are going to work, you are going to culturally assimilate, because that is what the United States is based on, which is productivity, work hard, create things, and have individual agency, have the ability to progress yourself in this world, in this society.

And if you take advantage of that opportunity, you're going to love the American ideals that this country was founded upon.”

This is what’s causing Anthropic to aggressively beg for govt protection (see below). Customers are finding cheaper alternatives. Keeping employees requires continuing ultra-rich secondaries ($$$) that are dependent on revenue growth. When you can’t win on the field go to DC.

they’re not jobs if they’re not valued. they’re not valued if there aren’t customers out there willing to pay them for their great work. needing the government to “create” a job is tantamount to welfare and that level of welfare resolves these individuals to a dependency on the government and lack of economic mobility. and chains our people, collectively, to a more indentured future.

you may be well intentioned but you have, and always will, fail to see the destitute folly of government as a job creation engine.

i have tried to engage you on this topic, in good faith, with empiricism and reasoning, but you have only dodged my points and pivoted to some populist refrain about the importance of taxation and the evils of productivity-driven success.

i can only assume you’re dodging these truths because you and the rest of the politburo leadership have deemed the conversation unsafe speech and put your oligopoly at risk.

let’s leave it at that then.

Wrong on every count. The annual wealth tax would have forced Elon to divest of his assets. Tesla and SpaceX would have disappeared as independent, vibrant assets, and US exceptionalism along with it. Many, many Americans would be far poorer today than they were then. And none of the poor would have seen a dime of the taxes (since the US and the States, in particular California, spend far more than they collect.) You can't cure dumb. For reference...see Europe.
