New York’s “sell by” food labels could soon be set to expire. A new law would outlaw that phrase and use others instead, like “best if used by,” to cut the amount of food unnecessarily thrown out by stores and consumers.

NEW: State lawmakers say they took a big step Thursday to close loopholes in New York’s stalking laws, which currently allow suspects to avoid prosecution and continue harassing victims. "CREEP" Act OK'd. sparked by cases inclu' 1 on Long Island. https://t.co/61917GDAyd
"This is it," state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins says on the last day of session. "This is the end of the shaded boxes, and everybody who knows me, they know that they could trust the shaded box." (Meaning don't expect more days tacked onto the calendar)
One consequence of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s waiting so late to get a budget deal:
The State Senate might not have time to vote on all of her dozens of pending nominations for state agency commissioners, judgeships and other posts.

To the 100’s of reporters calling me through the night.
Stop!
My legal team and I were made aware by a report from NPR yesterday that the DOJ might be looking into me. So now my legal team is in contact with the DOJ to see what is going on.
I will comment further when appropriate and clarify everything accordingly while being mindful and respectful of any process that might be underway.
The bases of the accusation is preposterous and I look forward to supplying any information asked of me to any agency that inquires, till then media please do not inquire.

Democrats’ FOURTH attempt at mid-decade redistricting is a brazen maneuver to elect more Democrats. Nothing more.
Their proposals shred voter-approved laws & the state Constitution, dismantling any semblance of independence & neutrality.
We will fight this every step of the way.
Session is scheduled to end Thursday, but Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said he expects the larger chamber won't wrap up voting until early Friday evening.
TBD if state Senate will finish Thursday or Friday.
And Heastie told a senior staffer "If we are past 7 o'clock (p.m.) that she should get the biggest book in our office and hit me with it."
Trade unions now circulating a memo to state legislators, saying data-center "projects represent a significant source of high-quality construction employment" and
opposing a bill that might "halt economic development and the many jobs being created."
State Senate Deputy Majority Leader Mike Gianaris tells me that the redistricting amendment could come to a vote tomorrow. Unlike bills, resolutions like this aren't subject to the same three-day aging period. So they don't have to wait all the way to Thursday
