@MatthewTaylorNI I was roughly the age my teenage daughter is now when these issues were at their height in the 90’s, it is utterly depressing having to explain it all to her today!
1/2 Just tried to complete SEND consultation. Q’s are so leading, feels more like ratification than consultation. Complex policy shifts that EA/DoE clearly trying to push reduced to ‘Do you agree? Yes/No.’ not how you consult on children’s rights. @NickDMathison@ChildLawCentre
Just completed the @Ed_Authority's consultation on SEN Enhanced Support Model / classroom support reform. This feels driven by cost, not by need. It appears to weaken accountability, pushes more onto already overstretched schools, and provides no evidence it will improve outcomes. If you have any stake in this - as a parent, carer, teacher, anyone — please read those documents. It's more about what they don't say than what they do. As a parent of a child with SEN in a special school, I'm deeply invested in getting SEN reform right. We absolutely need change, but I have real concerns about what's being proposed here. For what it's worth, here are my main concerns. 👇 @AutismReviewer @CalebsCauseNI @NickDMathison@SENreformNI@ChrisNICCY@ChildLawCentre@EqualityCommNI@Ed_Authority@Education_NI
@RyanTalksAutism Sounds very like the EANI transport process as well. Insiting on forms completed by Health Professionals when the information is already provided to them as part of evidence for statementing. Health knew nothing about the new process and parents are caught in the middle.
@MichelleGuy4 @allianceparty Shame the consultation is now closed, it wasn’t well advertised. As parent of a child at a secondary school surely the consultation could have been shared by the Department via the schools.

@Farmer_Boycie This brought tears having lost my big fella in October and doing it alone. The grief and guilt still hit me regularly. We loved them immeasurably and they felt safe and loved to the very end ❤️ 🐾
