GPA reinforces its position on the enforced use of skorts in camogie.
Forcing players to wear skorts is the most bizarre use of power by a governing body. It’s not like they’re asking to play in anything inappropriate.
Just let them wear shorts. It harms absolutely nobody.
Dublin camogie captain Aisling Maher penned an important statement on her instagram page after today's skorts protest before Dublin and Kilkenny contested the Leinster semifinal.
Both teams togged out in shorts only to be told by officials the match would be abandoned if they didn't switch into a mandated skort.
Maher called it a "career low" and asked why camogie players are still asked to wear something "uncomfortable and unfit for purpose"
"Career low for me today when 60+ players ready to play a championship game in shorts are told their match will be abandoned if every player doesn’t change into skorts."
"I love this game but I’m sick of being forced to wear a skort that is uncomfortable and unfit for purpose."
"How are female players still having to push for permission to wear shorts while they compete at the highest level of their sport."
"In no other facet of my life does someone dictate that I have to wear something resembling a skirt because I am a girl. Why is it happening in my sport?"
Another great night of sport. Queens University Belfast v MIC Thurles in the Aisling Murphy Cup Semi-final tonight in Abbotstown. First time they have done a selfie with the ref!!
Never more than a few points between them, QUB eventually winning by the narrowest of margins.
After getting her hands on the player of the match award and the Brendan Martin Cup - Dublin's Hannah Tyrrell enjoys a quiet moment with the real prize, her 7 week old daughter Aoife, after winning today's TG4 LGFA All-Ireland Senior Championship Final.
