#IES451Chat@tsschmidty@KeeganKorf this TED talk addresses the fears of teaching in a digital age but also says we can give students the basic tools to engage with technology in a thoughtful way (digital citizenship lessons) & support when they DO make mistakes (BC they will)
@tsschmidty@Catlin_Tucker the last portion of BLIA really sells the point that we are finding new ways to teach (my favorite was the flipped classroom) BC students need it. blended learning offers new ways to help students enter and adjust to the world around them
#IES451chat my concerns w/ #blendedlearning mostly involve how to get students to still learn effectively when tech offers a lot of distractions/the web has so much misinformation @tsschmidty@ChapmanU
#IES451Chat one of the biggest challenges to assessment in #BlendedLearning is making sure every student has access to an online platform. Students from differing incomes may not have the same tech access as one another for assessments @tsschmidty@ChapmanU
@tsschmidty@Catlin_Tucker BLIA reminds educators that entering the blended learning world is an adjustment for teachers AND students. Students need guidance in the online academic world as well (expertise in social media does NOT = expertise in online education)
#IES451Chat@tsschmidty@Catlin_Tucker blended learning can be overwhelming, but Blended Learning In Action shows that itโs both okay & necessary for the shift to blended learning to take a while. teachers who already know WHY they want to make the shift r already halfway there:)
#IES451Chat@tsschmidty@ajjuliani https://t.co/FbWYl3jQCo Juliani asks why we think our current teaching strategies are the best > PBL/inquiry & design. why don't we try something new when there IS research to support it? I'm all for #PBL#DesignThinking
#IES451Chat#DesignThinking@tsschmidty@spencerideas Innovation w/ #PBL forces kids to apply their edu to real life, vital for students wanting to engage w/their studies. dif ways of learning make topics fun/comprehensive for kids (the ultimate sign of success in schools)
these last 2 years showed how tech can create a classroom anywhere in any form. we need to continue using tech to โฌ๏ธ access for SPED students w/ a multitude of learning methods via visual/auditory aid or websites that encourage creative outlets > stifling distractions #IES451chat
Flip grid is such a great resource for students to build their speaking/listening skills w/o the in-person pressure! used it in a few classes & getting to hear myself before submitting assignments actually helped a TON #flipgrid4ELs#IES451chat@tsschmidty@ChapmanU @Flipgrid
@tsschmidty Future history teacher here! I have been thinking of playing @over_simplified videos for my kids and have them engage in conversation by commenting on the videos. Videos are always enjoyable and knowledgable that is easy for kids to understand! (1/2)
#IES451Chat on the K-12 level itโs clear that the Google Suite is one of the best tools for students to complete & reach their assignments/teachers. adding in sites like flipdgrid & blogger give students the chance to creatively engage w/ their edu. so that they care more abt it
Today is the kind of day where you realise how important the role of a History teacher is. We constantly preach that a value of our subject is how it helps us understand our world better. Explaining complex situations like the events in Ukraine to our students feels like a duty.
#IES451chat@tsschmidty It would be interesting how these people would talk with our vernacular and tech! I was able to use one of the @creativeedtech templates to imagine it though!
Loved seeing the positivity and excitement about learning from #Engage109 It makes it so much more fun for staff and students to show off that school spirit! @tsschmidty#IES451chat
#IES451chat@tsschmidty https://t.co/zOLpqIvkwB amazed at how quickly the PLN worked for these ppl to share their experiences abt their own benefits from being connected educators. ppl will give their help when asked when they want to make changes for all students
#IES451chat@tsschmidty https://t.co/KFc6Ry8sZ6 Byron Reese sums up fears abt not being able to make change but talks abt the abilities to do so as soon as you decide to do so. change is possible w/ the right passion!
