AWI condemns executive orders signed by President Trump that will harm wildlife and their habitats by expanding oil and gas drilling, mining, and logging; undermining bedrock environmental laws; and withdrawing the US from an important international climate agreement.
“When we lose a species, impacts reverberate throughout ecosystems, and we all suffer because our economy, health, livelihoods, food security, and quality of life all depend on healthy ecosystems." – @chelliepingree
Today, 47 organizations and experts sent a letter to Agriculture Committee leadership in the House and Senate expressing strong opposition to a provision in the House #FarmBill that would earmark taxpayer dollars for the mink industry. Learn more: https://t.co/ZtImphj3e1
The Captive Primate Safety Act protects both primates & people. Wild animals belong in the wild, not shackled & mistreated in a backyard. This measure is about safety, but also basic humane behavior—ending exploitation of these highly intelligent animals.https://t.co/cXIMEx1SCE
Thank you, President Biden, for celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act and for remaining committed to strongly implementing this law and protecting biodiversity.

Fifty years ago, Congress passed one of the world's most critical conservation laws, the Endangered Species Act.
Today, I'm committed to strengthening it so our kids and grandkids can marvel at the wonders of American wildlife for generations to come.
TY @RepJerryNadler & @repblumenauer for reintroducing the Refuge from Cruel #Trapping Act to ban body-gripping traps on national wildlife refuges. People and pets should enjoy public lands without fear of stepping into a bone-crushing trap. https://t.co/Zrw2bJq7EO
Thank you @Salon for highlighting the public health dangers of farming Mink.
My bill, the Mink: VIRUS Act does what needs to be done to prevent a future epidemic — and will ban the farming of mink.
Did you know? Contented mink will purr (or “churr” – making a low trilling sound), similar to cats! Yet on industrial mink farms, mink are typically crowded by the thousands into long rows of stacked, barren cages barely large enough for the animals to move around.
TY @SenBooker for highlighting the risk of mink #furfarms worsening the current pandemic & ushering in the next one. COVID-19 & avian flu outbreaks on mink farms, & instances of mink passing COVID-19 variants back to humans, are a #publichealth threat. https://t.co/KgbkCmS1VE
A global monkey torture ring, stretching from Indonesia to the US has been uncovered by the BBC.

I am introducing legislation to disincentive the production of mink farms, while reimbursing mink farmers for the full market value of their farm.
This legislation aims to end both the practice of mink farming, and advance public health and safety standards.
👏 Born Free USA applauds the introduction of #legislation (H.R. 3783) by @RepEspaillat that will phase out #mink#farms amid rising public health concerns.
We urge #Congress to pass the bill before the next devastating global health crisis is upon us.

Thank you @RepEspaillat for introducing the Mink VIRUS Act! Mink on fur farms incubate diseases such as COVID-19 and avian influenza and spawn variants that could jump to humans—with potentially devastating results. https://t.co/zJxqRnpw2X
In 2021 alone fully nine species native to Hawai’i were declared extinct. We shouldn’t have to defend bedrock protection laws like our Endangered Species Act, but unfortunately that’s been much of my week in my Natural Resources Committee. Here’s one example trying…(1/2)
