I was a people pleaser. I wanted everyone to feel love, happiness, and peace. I didn’t want them feeling an ounce of loneliness. I wanted them to know they were special and deserve everything they desire. I didn’t know it would cost me my biggest investment, myself.
so ur telling me i have to have a week of my period a week of ovulation a week of pms and sensitivity towards everything before my actual period so that leaves one week of being sane?
Complex post traumatic stress (C-PTSD) is often misdiagnosed as ADHD, depression, bipolar, anxiety, or other mental health disorders.
C-PTSD is not yet recognized as an official diagnosis.
Symptoms include:
-hyper-vigilance
-inability to pay attention
-dissociation
-“mood swings”
-low self worth
-inability to self regulate
-history attachment issues in relationships (ex: abandonment fears)
-overall distrust
-emotional flooding and/or flashbacks
-inability to emotionally regulate
Complex post traumatic stress typical comes from long-term trauma in childhood.
Ex:
-verbally or physical abuse, shaming
-witnessing dysfunctional relationships
-chronic chaos (unpredictability)
-parents who couldn’t emotionally regulate
-bullying
-emotionally absent parents
-financial insecurity and chronic stress
-sibling abuse
-addicted parents
When children are helpless to leave an unsafe or insecure environment, the body remembers. It remains in a threat state.
There is healing for C-PTSD: somatic healing/therapy, self healing, movement (ex: dance therapy), nutritional approaches, attachment therapy, and mind body practices like yoga all can be a part of an integrative approach.
Retweet for awareness.
An abandonment wound will have you chasing after people you’re not compatible with or pressuring people to ‘fight’ to keep you. Relationships created from the abandonment wound are just endless cycles of fight or flight. Your body craves the stress response and you interpret the anxiety as excitement or ‘passion.’
Core beliefs are belief we inherit subconsciously from birth-age 7 based on what we hear repetitively while our brains are in a theta (sponge) state. How did those in your home speak about: themselves, other people, money, their body, the way the world is...
The real stigma in addiction is the unspoken hierarchy of what's an 'accepted' addiction and what's not.
Drugs and alcohol aren't the only things that are addictive.
Shopping, pornography, gambling, workaholism, food, relationships: any self soothing mechanism has the potential to be addictive.
Addiction is a cycle of attempting to soothe our nervous system, our own racing thoughts, and feelings of isolation in ways that help in the short term and create suffering in the long term.
There's also a less talked aspect of emotional addiction. The cycle of highs and lows that come with seeking (and sneaking), the adrenaline and cortisol rushes, the excitement, the intense shame.
This familiar cycle actually serves a purpose. It's chronic distraction from: our inner pain, our racing thoughts, and our feelings of unworthiness.
Working in substance recovery centers, I learned quickly how much time and energy an addiction takes up in a person's life. This is can be a 'positive' for someone that's running from a conflict within themselves.
Stillness and being in ones own thoughts is the greatest fear of someone stuck in the cycle of addiction.
@caseylorrainee I can speak to the truth and say you are changing the world one day at a time by sharing knowledge with those around you especially the kids that you teach. They might not realize it but one day they will look back and realize how big of a impact you are making
@caseylorrainee you are 100% correct. putting yourself first is one of the hardest things to learn especially when it involves your dream career but i think one day you will wake up and realize enough is enough.
