@SamanthaStofsky I agree with you and think that they just felt as if he was a better candidate between the two. I think the similar religious beliefs definitely played a big role in this because it probably made the choice a little easier when they had to vote. #REL2121S18

@abbyjenc I agree with you about the reading quizzes. I never really did well on them. I thought they were very tricky because I felt like I was always choosing between two of the choices. #REL2121S18

I really enjoyed how the class wasn't just lectures. I liked how we watched a lot of videos throughout the course, and also had discussions. I wasn't a big fan of the reading but I did learn a lot while reading the assigned book for class and the FBI book. #REL2121S18

@led16g I think that he definitely used this slogan to gain more voters. He should have done something a little more original instead of just trying to show what he practices. I think he mainly focused on Protestants because he knew how popular Protestantism is in America. #REL2121S18

I am surprised that Pentecostalism is so popular and successful because Ive never heard of it. Also, I think it is interesting how media and technology are important in this religion, because this makes it different than other religious groups teachings. #REL2121S18

During World War II people were away from there families for so long that this resulted in people to have a nostalgic feeling in the 1950’s because they were back with their family and loved ones again. #REL2121s18

After watching the different videos in class today I think that the UFO religions are kind of similar to cults. Since it is a group of people who believe in something and change their entire life in order to be a part of it. #REL2121s18

@klc15m Yes, I definitely agree. If a kid has a detached relationship with their family it does make sense why they would join a cult in the first place. Also, I am against the idea of cults for sure but I don't think deprogramming is the best way to change someone. #REL2121S18

After watching the documentary on Tuesday I thought it was weird to see what parents would do if they found out their child was in a cult. I understand that parents want the best for their children, but I think if they are over 18 then it is their choice. #REL2121S18

@jmb16ac This is so funny Jordan! But yes I definitely think that since its a group of girls all doing the same thing & matching it could seem as if it was a cult. Although, a cult involves religious devotion towards something so this is why it wouldn't be considered one. #REL2121S18

@jmo16cREL2121 Yeah that could definitely be a possibility as to why people didn't wan't to accept the theory of evolution. I do think that some people thought they would lose some faith because by accepting evolution they are denying some of their religious beliefs. #REL2121S18

Darwin's theory of evolution was accepted by religious groups because some people believed that evolution was compatible with church teachings. Although, many accept this theory, there are some who disagree with it. Even today people still fight over evolution. #REL2121s18

Idk about anyone else, but I wouldn't want to live in a community where I had to treat everyone the same. This was referred to in the lecture as discouraging "special love". I think it would be hard to act the same way towards family and then someone you barley know. #REL2121s18

Memorial Day & Independence Day are important representations of "Religion & the Republic." During these days you see the American flag a lot which is an important symbol. These holidays can also be considered modern day rituals, since we still celebrate them today.
