I haven’t published any book reviews on my blog before, and this book has been out since 2021. But it’s come up in several conversations recently, so I decided to post what I wrote a while back on Kevin DeYoung's Men and Women in the Church. https://t.co/k6OQa9t8qm
Healing cannot begin until the victim is safe. Do we want them to get to the place of reflection? Yes, but it cannot happen if they are expected to stay in the trauma while doing so. And it goes at their pace, not ours.
For the victim of ongoing trauma, to put down their guard and reflect and feel is to fail to see the next abusive event coming. Impossible. Our assessment powers as humans are tremendously compromised when we are simply trying to dodge the next blow.
@brmorris Yes, perhaps someone who has received the “knowledge” as given, but without offering up questions. From my experience, women are expected to do just that in complementarian systems. Receive teaching from “worthy” men without questioning. Don’t learn Hebrew/Greek, or hermeneutics
@brmorris@JayMallow3 It’s more like a confusion of the economic Trinity vs. the immanent or ontological Trinity. Please see @MattMBarrett ‘s book called Simply Trinity. It’s an excellent critique of their trinitarian errors.

@AmyMantravadi How about instead, pastors, preach on your own top three idols and ask the congregation to pray for you and ask the Spirit to free the Church of idolatry and sin through confession and repentance?
