Zakat-ul-Fitr is a sacred obligation meant to purify our fast and bring joy to the poor before the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. Its purpose is to ensure that the most vulnerable members of the Muslim Ummah—the poor, widows, orphans, displaced families, and those struggling to survive—have food and dignity on the day of Eid.

The beauty of Zakat-ul-Fitr is that it is meant to be given before the Eid prayer, so that those in need can prepare, cook, and celebrate like every other Muslim family. Waiting until the last minute makes it difficult for these families to receive and benefit from it in time.

Once you know your dependents and those you intend to give Zakat-ul-Fitr for, it is best to fulfill this obligation early so it can reach the most vulnerable Muslims in time for Eid.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
