Professor Akiko Iwasaki @VirusesImmunity explains why C19 mRNA vax gives short term antibody protection. Thread proposes development of nasal vaccines which can be self administered on a regular basis.
An important study by F. Eun-Hyung Lee's team shows that long lived plasma cells (the source of long-term circulating antibodies) fail to establish after mRNA vaccination (even combined with SARS-CoV-2 infection). 🧵 (1/)

This study published in April further supports the airborne route of SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Infection initiated by only a few virus particles. #COVIDー19#Covid#CovidIsAirborne
A brilliant achievement for Professor Akiko Iwasaki @VirusesImmunity - so well deserved. She is an inspiration for science, diversity and passionate supporter of patient led research 🙏
The is week is the 80th anniversary of Arnhem - the battle loomed large in the memories of my Dad's generation, everyone knew the basic story long before the movie came out. Women in my family packed parachutes for the soldiers training at Ringway. Incredible valour.
@timspector talks a lot of sense on what is causing the current crisis in health. If we don’t address preventative measures like food then we are heading for a crisis of obesity, diabetes and more.
Finally we see the mess the NHS and our health is in compared to other countries despite paying the same. We need to also prevent disease and that means changing the nations food which is the worst in Europe because of UPF fake food & the food industry https://t.co/FbjiExQoNz
Here is the first randomized trial to show that an antiviral can prevent Long Covid.
In the PANORAMIC trial, people randomized to molnupiravir had less risk of Long Covid than people who received no antivirals

Boris Johnson, lying narcissist, faces ‘serious questions’ over new firm "Better Earth" with uranium boss after he FAILED to disclose he met a uranium lobbyist while PM.
Firm employs Charlotte Owen - plonked into Lords for no reason

Stephen @SGriffin_Lab I am hoping to be able to get the Novavax vaccine this autumn. Do you know if it’s available to have privately. I would be eligible for NHS booster but am sceptical about them using old stocks of bivalent vax.
This is SUCH a mixed bag.
Fantastic to have these vaccines, but I'm utterly dumbfounded by the cutoff being 75-79.
I'd honestly appreciate anyone with a scientific reason for this to let me know...however, suspect it's 💰...for a change.
US is doing all >65s...🙄

Vitamin D supplementation reduced mortality from Covid19 in randomised control trials from almost 2500 patients. Larger prospective trials needed to confirm and extend the research. Vitamin D is a known immune modulator helping to fight infection.

Rheumatoid arthritis RA is a lifelong disease with wide ranging consequences to quality of life. Review of neutrophil extracellular traps NETS in the pathology of RA as potential therapeutic targets. Hope that this line of research could lead on to new approaches to treatment.
