There are questions about where Zoho is developed and where the data is hosted and who hosts it. There is a lot of false information we want to correct.
1. All the products are developed in India. Our global headquarters is in Chennai and we pay taxes in India on our global income. As a global corporation headquartered in India, we have offices in over 80 countries and have a strong presence in the US which is a big market for us.
2. Indian customer data is hosted in India (Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai, soon Odissa). We have over 18 data centers globally and they host the respective country or regional data. We are committed to hosting each country data in their own jurisdiction.
3. All our services run on hardware we own and software frameworks we developed, on top of open source like Linux OS and Postgres database.
4. We do not host our products on AWS or Azure. Arattai, specifically, is not hosted on AWS or Azure or GCloud. We use some of those services for regional switching nodes to speed up traffic but data is not stored in them. We are adding many such "points of presence" (POPs) as we speak.
5. Our Zoho Developer account in the App Store and Play Store lists our US office address because the account was registered in the very early days of those stores by one of our employees in the US just to test them out. We never changed that.
We are proudly "Made in India, Made for the World" and we mean it🙏
🚨 A new Indian app is trying to capture Watsapp market.
'Arattai', from Zoho has recorded daily signups from 3,000 to 350,000 in just 3 days.
Will it break the western monopoly and succeed?
Dear @svembu@Arattai
So, firstly congratulations on creating a Swadeshi movement. Seriously, it was long due.
Infact, I installed the Arattai app and tested a few things with my friend Balu ji @BaluGorade ❤️
My feedback:
- App is quick. Seamless. Smooth.
- Pocket Feature is awesome for maintaining messages for Self
- Tried audio and video calls. Super seamless. Attaching image.
- Tried sending photos, super quick
- Synced my contacts and now able to onboard many of my friends.
Improvement areas:
- As you can see in my first image, I sent a bunch of messages. There is a single tick on one of them (4.21 PM), and the later messages have gone through. Maybe some packets getting dropped.
- In night mode, the double tick colour is not contrasting to the theme. Especially, if message is seen by recipient, you can have a contrasting colour for the double tick (based on theme chosen). This is the case for non night mode as well.
- I tried uploading a Video to my Stories, failed multiple times. Maybe because it was too big in size. Compression should be more effective imho.
- Also stories currently allows 1 min. 2 min would be brilliant to have.
- Default settings is Auto Download of Media. This should be Disabled by Default, else the Storage would get hit. Please consider.
- We need to get more people to use this. We are all here to spread the word 🔥
I would continue to use and provide feedback. Hoping to see improvements in further updates.
Lots of love, best wishes,
#FI
We have faced a 100x increase in Arattai traffic in 3 days (new sign-ups went vertical from 3K/day to 350K/day). We are adding infrastructure on an emergency basis for another potential 100x peak surge. That is how exponentials work.
As we add a lot more infrastructure, we are also fine tuning and updating the code to fix issues as they arise. We have all-hands-on-deck working flat out.
As a matter of fact, we had planned on a big release by November, with a lot of the features you expect, a huge capacity addition and a marketing push. And then it suddenly went vertical!
We have a lot more planned for Arattai, please give us some time. Thank you for your patience and support! Jai Hind 🙏
🚨 Govt Should Also Switch To Indian Apps Like Arattai For Sending Important Communications
Even Banks Can Use It For OTP and Alerts
Currently Many Departments Use WhatsApp
This Will Help in Widespread Adoption of Arattai
Dear Arattai users, some of you may experience OTP delays/failures, slower contact sync, or call issues due to unexpected load on our servers. We’re expanding our infrastructure and should be back to normal in a couple of days. Thanks for your patience & support!
Update on our Arattai messenger app:
It is another example of our patient engineering approach at work. We have taken the time because we have to make it work in low end phones, low bandwidth networks (we test down to 8 kilobits/sec), offer outstanding privacy and security, and be very easy to use, all at the same time!
We are diligently updating the app weekly. We are working on a lot of the features you expect and in another month, a lot of that will be done. We are also investing in the infrastructure for scaling. I am personally talking to the engineers daily on all this.
We will launch a big marketing campaign once that is all in place. You will like the campaign!
We are committed to offering the best messaging experience in the world. Stay tuned for more!
