A counterfeit Abhayrab rabies vaccine sample has been flagged with batch number KE25012.

The comparison shown by Dr Sivarangani Santos highlights visible differences between the suspected counterfeit and the genuine retained sample—including font differences and a hologram on the blue cap, while the genuine sample has a green cap without a hologram.

This is not a reason to unleash fear on dogs.

It is a reason to demand:

If you are bitten/scratched or saliva contacts broken skin/mucosa: wash the wound thoroughly for 15 minutes and seek medical care immediately

WHO recommends prompt PEP for relevant exposures; Category III exposures require vaccine + rabies immunoglobulin.

At the same time, vaccinate dogs. WHO says ≥70% dog vaccination is the most effective way to prevent human rabies, and dog hatred does not control rabies, vaccination does

If the bite or scratch was due to a cat or dog, and the cat/dog stayed alive for more than 10 days after the scratch/bite, it is considered that the dog/cat wasn't rabid.

So, you can skip taking the extra dose, but remember that the counterfeit one/vaccine given in the buttocks or bums will not be counted as a dose for future purposes.

This 10 day rule is not valid for scratches/bites/exposure of wounds to the saliva of the mammal, in case of mammals other than dogs and cats
