#SWS President @Laftagareen appointed State level #ElNino Response Committee held its first meeting today.

We discussed the impact of ongoing ElNino rains, including evacuating affected people and mitigating the impact of the flash floods following heavy rains in Districts such as #Baidoa, #Burhakaba, #Hudur, #Berdale, #Wanlaweyn, and #Janaale, that destroyed livelihoods, infrastructure, homes, and caused displacements.

So far #Baidoa district is the most affected whereby 10 lives were tragically lost, and over 402,000 people (236, 928 IDPs and 165,341 host communities) affected.

We're further concerned about the destroyed Baidoa-Mogadishu main supply route that could cause inflation of consumer goods and consequently food shortage.

We urge the humanitarian agencies to upscale #ElNino #Emergency #Response to assist the affected people.
