Thank you @US_SrAdvisorAF and @EUSR_Weber for being proactive in our region & work with stakeholders hand in hand. Regional peace & stability in the Horn of Africa is vital for world peace and stability. Especially related to Red Sea & its safety, world leaders & especially those with political/ economic leverage is so important. #Eritrea sings peace, & calls for respect of international law. And respecting sovereignty & territorial integrity is a “must”. @StateDept & @EU_Commission should stand firmly in restraining @AbiyAhmedAli@MFAEthiopia & pressuring them to respect the sovereignty & territorial integrity of their neighbors.

Will the UNSC and the AU Rein in Ethiopian’s Expansionism and Aggression?
by Adulis Tewolde
*...Today, the Horn of Africa confronts another dangerous juncture. The current Ethiopian ruling party has explicitly framed 'sovereign access to the sea' as a 'strategic imperative', that must be 'ascertained through negotiations if possible and by force if necessary'. Ethiopia’s intensive and provocative pronouncements conducted for over three years now as well as associated acts are indeed tantamount to a declaration of war. And finally, on 9 October this month, Ethiopia formally notified the UN Security Council that it has declared war against Eritrea under the preposterous allegations of 'Eritrea’s invasion''.
*"...Both the UN and the AU are intergovernmental organizations designed to reflect the collective position of their member states. In this context, it is imperative that these institutions uphold, without any equivocation, the fundamental pillars of the UN Charter and the AU’s Constitutive Act on the full respect of sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of all Member States. Indeed, respect for these principles is sine qua non for peaceful relations between States".
*"...Eritrea has already paid a heavy price for the international community’s past failures. Its long struggle for independence and its insistence on the implementation of the EEBC decisions underscore the importance of defending sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the peaceful settlement of disputes".
*"The question now is whether the institutions established to safeguard international peace and security will fulfill their responsibilities. Will the Security Council, the African Union, and the wider international community rein in Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party expansionist ambitions and deter aggression? Or will the defense of the UN Charter’s most fundamental principles once again be left to Eritrea alone, with all the catastrophic costs that such a failure entails".

@reda_getachew I believe Ambassador Cong has conveyed messages to Abiy to halt the war. The UN is aware of who the aggressor is and is attempting to manipulate the narrative.
Reading from a teleprompter on Ethiopia's TV yesterday, the Potemkin Party's Prime Minister disparages Eritrea's economic development, and particularly its manufacturing sector, as "stagnant and in decline" since its independence in 1991.
The speech/interview was also laced with his three-year old threats of war of aggression and invasion unless Eritrea succumbs to his delusional projects of "sovereign access to the sea" and "Ethiopian naval presence" in Eritrea's coastal territory; packaged this time round in different pretexts, language, and format.
To revert to his disparaging discourse on Eritrea's economic performance and potential:
1. In the past 35 years, Ethiopia was the beneficiary of a whopping 80-90 billion US dollars of international multilateral and bilateral assistance;
2. Ethiopia went through two rounds of WB sponsored debt-cancellation rounds, as well as repetitive financial bailouts from the IMF and other donors. For almost ten years in -between, Ethiopia's dire humanitarian conditions were alleviated by the international community under a customized "social safety net" and other similar "intensive care" financial antidotes.
3. The current regime itself has received over 30 billion US dollars in international assistance in the last 8 years alone. In addition, its tattering economy is being resuscitated by another IMF bailout programme to the tune of 3.1 billion US dollars.
4. And yet, as the figures below illustrate, more than 68% Ethiopians are living under extreme poverty while close to 30 million people require urgent humanitarian relief assistance at this point in time.
5. In as far as the 300 manufacturing plants that the PP leader alludes to, these were old factories built during Italy's colonization of Eritrea from 1889 until 1941. The British Military Administration dismantled many of those factories - including the dock in Massawa - as "war booty" and sold them to other foreign countries. The occupationist Haile Selassie regime, in its turn, dismantled many of the remaining factories and transferred them to Ethiopia especially during the imposed "Federation" period.
6. After its hard-won independence in 1991, Eritrea registered rapid economic growth in the first seven years (WB reports). Imposed wars and unwarranted sanctions thereafter naturally affected the pace and magnitude of its economic trajectory.
7. These externalities have nothing to do with Eritrea's open investment and economic policies and visions.
8. And in any case, Eritrea has the abundant economic endowments (blue economy, extractive industry, educated and industrious human capital, and a civilized culture that celebrates religious and ethnic diversity within robust national unity) to excel and achieve its aspirations of rapid and sustainable growth in a conducive and enduring regional climate of peace and stability.
9. Finally, Ethiopia itself could do much better, extricate itself from debilitating dependency, and use its abundant resources for real development if its leaders abandon sectarian policies of division and polarization that incubate perennial cycles of internal turmoil as well as intertwined acts of regional destabilization in pursuit of delusional and expansionist projects.
Potemkin Party's toxic/stale chorus is grotesquely on display again.
In the link below, the official mouthpiece of the regime (Fana Broadcasting Corporation -Arabic) tries to package, in its news item today, the PP's declared war of aggression in fallacious "historical and strategic terms".
1. In the first place, Ethiopia cannot "reclaim ports and maritime route" that it never owned except during its illicit presence in the bogus "Federation" and annexation periods. Annexation and forceful occupation do not confer historical/legal title to the occupying entity. International law 101.
2. The Eritrean people had paid precious sacrifices when their right to decolonization was denied in the 1940s to satisfy overriding geopolitical interests of major powers. As a result, they had to undergo through Africa's longest liberation struggle to achieve their inalienable national rights and human dignity which should not have been denied in the first place.
3. In the event, to deny and denigrate Eritrea's independence constitutes yet another transgression and political blasphemy of the highest order.

@_hudsonc@AJEnglish If you care about humanity and Ethiopia, please urge Abiy Ahmed to cease his war ambitions against its neighbours. He has launched attacks in all directions, targeting his own citizens & perpetuating endless suffering. Every day, 🇪🇹’ns citizens r killed by their own government
@_hudsonc@SecRubio Reliable sources from the State Department confirm there’s no evidence of Eritrean Army presence in 🇪🇹 territory. Secretary Rubio has clearly and boldly communicated to the Ethiopian government to cease interference with Eritrea’s territorial integrity.
@BBCAfrica The British government should address the issue of false asylum claims before criticizing Eritrea. We can justify millions of similar cases, like the one below, but @BBCAfrica is unwilling to investigate them.

ETHIOPIA ― Soon after #Qatar publicly expressed solidarity with #Ethiopia following the formation of a seven-group armed coalition challenging Abiy Ahmed’s authoritarian regime, Al Jazeera increasingly appeared to be doing more than reporting the crisis.
Meet 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐚𝐡𝐚 𝐓𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐥, Al Jazeera’s Addis Ababa bureau chief since 2017. Eritrean by birth, his Arabic reporting repeatedly pushes an anti-Eritrea narrative.
When every independent journalists are locked out of northern Ethiopia, Tawakel somehow enjoys VIP frontline access, complete with artillery fire in the background for dramatic effect. (see the comment section)
On September 28, for instance, Tawakel was among the first to push the claim that Eritrean troops were involved in fighting Ethiopian government forces in the Afar region, an allegation the Abiy regime itself has not made to date.
Why introduce such a politically explosive claim before independent verification? Who verifies his claims? Why is Eritrea repeatedly cast as the culprit before the evidence is independently established?
@anesmansory@petros_kebreab1 It always amazes me how Eritreans, both at home and around the world, stand so proudly for their country, 🇪🇷. This unity is a testament to the leadership on the ground. Long live the leadership in Eritrea and the formidable EDF.
6/14 — SEPTEMBER 2, 2025:
Major General Teshome Gemechu, head of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces’ Foreign Relations Department, declared: “The Red Sea belongs to Ethiopia. We will take it back at any cost! Assab is Ethiopia’s Red Sea province.”
This is not the language of peaceful port negotiations. It is a direct challenge to Eritrea’s sovereignty.
4/14 — OCTOBER 13, 2023: “BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY”
PM Abiy Ahmed publicly discussed securing sovereign access to the sea “by any means necessary,” reportedly describing Ethiopia as a “prisoner of geography.”
Economic and maritime access can be negotiated. Another country’s sovereign territory cannot simply be claimed.
1/14 — ETHIOPIA’S RED SEA ACCESS CAMPAIGN
Ethiopia’s pursuit of Red Sea access has become a major source of tension with Eritrea. From claims of an “inherent right” to the sea to statements about Assab, the rhetoric raises serious questions about regional peace and territorial sovereignty.
