The wild species that have lost their habitats along the construction areas can testify that #PEARLSWEET is truly finger-licking good. 😂☠️

The same can be said for the species and natural habitats affected in Murchison Falls National Park, Taala Central Forest Reserve, and other environmentally sensitive areas impacted by the oil project.

I will not even mention the PAPs, whose mouths must be watering and whose saliva must be dripping from the intense sweetness of #PEARLSWEET.

Important Update: 17 of our members were singled out and arrested from a large group of over 500 people that marched today to @Parliament_Ug and at @TotalEnergies headquarters in Uganda with an aim of drawing attention to an urgent need for an oil free economy, economic freedom and halt to further oil infrastructure development in Uganda.

Uganda Police and other security forces used excessive force against the peaceful protesters who have reported to have sustained injuries during the arrests and beatings by security personnels in the course of taking them to the different police station. The 10 people that were arrested at the Parliament of Uganda are currently detained at the Central Police Station in Kampala and the 7 people arrested at the Headquarters of Total Energies are currently detained at Wandegeya Police Station.

Rooted in Resistance condemns this brutal force and demands justice served to these brave activists that are refusing to give in amidst an urgent need for an oil free economy and economic freedom in our lifetime.

PICTORIAL : Parliamentary police have arrested youth activists from Rooted in Resistance as they marched to Parliament to petition against the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure in Uganda.

The activists are calling for an oil-free economy, urging government to redirect investments towards agriculture, tourism, renewable energy and manufacturing, while reviewing existing petroleum policies over concerns about environmental degradation and limited benefits to ordinary Ugandans.
