@rich_coupe@x86matthew@ShinyQuagsire I seem to remember, possibly incorrectly, that for the TriMedia VLIW chips at least binaries were tied to chip Mhz, ie executables need to be recompiled for different chip speeds. This didn’t help it gain traction. But I don’t know if that was toolchain immaturity or by design.
@rich_coupe@x86matthew@ShinyQuagsire That’s interesting. VLIW was the hot new chip architecture around then, over at Philips they had the TriMedia chips but as you said they never delivered on their promise.

@Heaney555 @mkoivuka I think the RAM delta of 2GB between Quest 2 and Quest 3 and the large established Quest 2 user base gave Meta a 12-24 month window to “use” the 2GB for this before Quest 3 only heavy games may have squeezed this out. Ie perfect timing of hardware and software.
@joshwhiton I noticed this a few days ago when I bought a pair of earbuds in a reputable Irish supermarket. I gasped too as they identified themselves as ‘Beats’ headphones in the accessory dialog that popped up, however the Bluetooth device is called ‘baets’, yep, ‘baets’!
Meta Quests new wrist based app and system menu buttons are a definite improvement on air tapping. I think they could have gone a little further using something like Cathy Fangs self haptic work at the Future Interfaces group at MIT Media Lab …

Anyone building in AR/VR and who thinks @speedrun may be good for them (it almost certainly will be), ping me & I can provide a referral. Just don’t build anything generic, push the limits on deep-tech or use-cases!
@mattmiesnieks Best of luck Matt. No doubt taking a break from path finding will free up the mind for new opportunities. Predicting the technology to commercial viability runway is harder in MR than smart phones, and that was hard!
