Given the latest autocratic Trump volley over the net regarding leaving office, it's worth revisiting this essay written shortly after the 2016 election:

Trump commuting Stone in exchange for Stone not rolling on Trump is of course a quid pro quo. Is it politically incorrect in these circumstances to remind people, maybe in a whisper, that the Constitution defines “Bribery” as a “high Crime,” automatically an impeachable offense?
News of Donald Trump commuting Roger Stone's sentence proves what was obvious since the beginning. The pledge to "drain the swamp" was about as real as Trump University. Many will conclude Stone had a lot to say to implicate Trump, didn't say it, and was rewarded accordingly.
Unprecedented, historic corruption: an American president commutes the sentence of a person convicted by a jury of lying to shield that very president.
I received this letter from a farmer in northeast Kansas. His wife is ill and he is aging.
He sent me 1 of 5 N95 masks he has from farming to pass on to a doctor or nurse in New York.
This is humanity at its best. I share his letter as inspiration.
The president’s statements this morning encourage illegal and dangerous acts. He is putting millions of people in danger of contracting COVID-19.
His unhinged rantings and calls for people to “liberate” states could also lead to violence. We’ve seen it before. 1/7
Heartbreaking. We can not tolerate this in a democracy where citizens perform their civic duty. What kind of country do we want to live in? Not one that behaves like this. https://t.co/ZTfnrE6lyy

A Tour de Force. Uplifting, healing, realistic and optimistic with a strong appeal to bring the Democratic Party together. Gray to hear his voice in full throttle again.
Hats off to Paula Reid for doing her job. What was the plan for February? Have we ever seen the likes of this from a President? Looks like a 4 year old melting down when he snaps and calls her a disgrace for simply asking him to answer her question.
This clip combined with yesterday’s press conference meltdown is truly astonishing. On January 22nd, Trump said he had a plan against the coronavirus. Apparently, it was to do nothing for the month of February.
Jan 22nd I asked President about Coronavirus at Davos he said “We think it is going to be handled very well...@CDCgov has been terrific…we are in very good shape & China is in good shape as well.” I’ll be on @FaceTheNation w/latest on WH response #HighRiskCovid19
