DR Congo Takes Rwanda to the International Court of Justice

The Democratic Republic of Congo has officially filed a case against Rwanda at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing Kigali of violating multiple international conventions during the conflict in eastern DRC.

In a statement issued on June 26, the Congolese government ( @Com_mediasRDC ) said it is seeking a ruling that Rwanda bears international responsibility for alleged violations, including the Genocide Convention, the Convention Against Torture, the Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

Kinshasa argues that civilians in eastern DRC have endured decades of violence, massacres, forced displacement, sexual violence, and other serious human rights abuses linked to armed groups it says were supported or directed by Rwanda.

The DRC is asking the ICJ to order an end to the alleged internationally wrongful acts, guarantee they are not repeated, and award reparations to both the Congolese state and victims.

The Congolese government said the move reflects its commitment to pursuing justice through international law and holding those responsible for alleged violations accountable.
