@katrinakalamat1 I try to keep time scheduled for flexible grouping. The focus of these groups is based on growing the students’ personal areas of need. This is a hard question to answer because the focus of education is not on personalized learning.

@katrinakalamat1 I need to focus more on the 8 things! I try to use voice, choice, reflection, and self-assessment, but sometimes I get side tracked with other district responsibilities. I need to provide more opportunities for innovation, critical thinking, and creating problem solvers/finders.

@katrinakalamat1 A5 Following educators on social media has provided many new, creative ideas. I also have a few colleagues that I enjoy sharing and discussing district 300 curriculum planning and implementing. New teachers to PLC need to jump right in and share, share, share! Love your insights!

@katrinakalamat1 A4 We encourage our students to complete a “passion project”. With less direction from me, the students have far surpassed my expectations in what they know, have learned, and how they share their learning with the class.

A1 I feel like my team is very supportive and helpful. We respect each other’s unique qualities and strengths and appreciate our differences. This year we have worked on staying more aligned with the district pacing guide and using common assessments.

@Reader2191 @katrinakalamat1 I agree...a simple smile or how is your day and you have a new friend to connect with. Personal connections can make a difference in a students day, year, or even school experience. Everyone needs to feel like they belong and someone cares.

@katrinakalamat1 What if we empowered students to make a difference in the world today and in the future...isn’t that the whole point of education-to inspire students to be the best they can be and to put that greatness out into the world. Imagine what a world that would be.

@katrinakalamat1 A5: Voice, Choice, and some Student Reflection are things happening in my classroom. Problem solving, critical thinking, and connected learning are areas I consider a work in progress. I get so bogged down in the day to day “stuff” I need to keep this list handy.

@katrinakalamat1 My focus ever day is less me more them. I become less the learning leader and more the learning facilitator. As the year progresses we move to more student choice in learning topics, projects, and activities.

@katrinakalamat1 Q3: I need to be careful because I tend to reflect more on the what went wrong than on the what went right. I use my colleagues to help listen and inspire. I want to use the tools on Haiku more in my classroom.

@katrinakalamat1 I am in the hall every morning saying hello to all the students who walk by. I make a point to say hello to students I meet in the hall and ask them how their day is going. I want to know that they are having a good day.

@katrinakalamat1 A1: Building and maintaining relationships with my students has always been a priority for me as an educator. It’s the base for everything else that happens. We spend time talking, sharing, and connecting every day. I also make those connections with coworkers and parents.
