During the 2026 legislative session, some lawmakers tried to ensure Hope Scholarship funds were targeted to education costs. They were met w/ attacks and misinformation from voucher groups. Now trampoline parks + 24 hr gyms are Hope Scholarship vendors.

Two things can be true:
There is no TANF funding crisis in the upcoming fiscal year budget passed by the Gov and lawmakers
& the state is far too reliant on dwindling federal $$ to supplant state dollars they should be spending on things like child care- it will run out
The government is great at coming up with "estimates" that show they need more money. But the one thing I can tell you is the government never lacks funding. The idea we would possibly take money away from foster parents via TANF cuts is ridiculous.
The TFPSWV Coalition, a nonpartisan statewide organization made up of families, educators and community groups, is calling on state leaders to impose a moratorium on school closures and consolidations in West Virginia, according to a Wednesday news release https://t.co/7HGihzBa4i
I have directed the chair of the Ohio Tax Credit Authority to pause consideration of any new data center tax exemption requests while the Ohio General Assembly's Joint Data Center Committee studies the growth of data centers in Ohio. https://t.co/SVMpcbRUQV
This profoundly incorrect statement inspired me to make a new graph.
This shows primary deficits from 1790-2054. The orange line shows what would happen without the Bush tax cuts, TCJA, and OBBBA.
If not for the 21st century tax cuts, we wouldn't have a fiscal gap.
West Virginia suffered 40 workplace fatalities in 2024.
“It’s a capacity issue,” Josh Sword, West Virginia AFL-CIO President, said. “There are fewer inspectors than there have ever been throughout the agency, and that makes workplaces less safe.”

It's entirely possible that our members of Congress truly did not understand children and other eligible people would be impacted by the SNAP and Medicaid cuts in HR 1. But if they didn't and they meant what they said, they must reverse course now.
Among the states that break out the data, children make up nearly half of those who've lost SNAP coverage since HR 1 (the One Big Beautiful Bill) was enacted. @RepRileyMoore@RepCarolMiller@SenCapito@JimJustice_WV https://t.co/aPhQvpAtgZ
As the state's KIDS COUNT grantee, we've asked for this data in WV, but the WV DoHS has been "researching if they are in custody of responsive documents" for 8 months and counting. This is data we were able to get without a FOIA under prior gubernatorial administrations.

When schools close, students lose access to support systems and face longer bus rides, communities lose gathering spaces, and the local economy is harmed. Check out this school closure tool:https://t.co/3nhjbWkvSp
Difficult to put into perspective what @WVUBaseball is doing right now. One victory from a @Big12Conference tournament title which would earn their 40th win.
Big picture: Back-to-back Super Regionals and now getting ready to host an NCAA Regional next week.
This is a head fake. As long as billionaires talk about cutting other people’s taxes, they think they can avoid paying their fair share.
Anyone serious about affordability should run from these kinds of policies.
