This past week we had an excellent lecture by @DrRashidSumaila! We learnt that managing fisheries is a delicate balance without a simple answer. But we do know the merit of marine protected areas which can serve as buffer zones to enhance fishery sustainability!

Corals are home to millions of bacteria and viruses. These microbes and chemicals in combination with the corals host form a unit called a holobiont. Understanding the roles of holobionts has become increasingly important as coral reef health has declined over recent decades.
I find the craziest thing is that something as taboo as introducing potentially invasive species on purpose has happened all over the globe before! Cane toads etc... when will we learn :'(

With rising sea surface temperatures we are seeing crazy impacts on ocean fish. Some are dying out and some are moving towards the poles. Drastic changes to the ocean ecosystem is occurring!

Global warming is leading to melting glaciers and rising sea levels. With our reinforced shorelines, intertidal ecosystems cannot follow the changes to sea level! What can we do about it tho?

Meltwater draining to the base of Greenland glaciers acts like water on a slide, accelerating ice sheet melt into the ocean. Researchers camped on Russell Glacier to learn more about how water below glaciers affects Greenland’s additions to rising seas.

@MarineCons I feel like almost all mainstream documentaries exaggerate to a certain extent. However, I do agree that this film has many short comings. There should be no excuse for misinformation.
Side note: When you get a chance, you should totally watch this documentary on Netflix! It is a great mainstream introduction for those who don't really know about ocean conservation!
